MARQUEE PROJECTS is pleased to present WiFi Computer Lol Haha, Taylor Anton White’s third solo exhibition with the gallery.

A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, August 1 from 12 pm to 7 pm.

The exhibition will survey new paintings, drawings, and a mixed-media installation that embody Mr. White’s ongoing experimentations with process and technique.

“My primary objective in making art is simply to make something that I haven’t personally seen before. To work with an object until it sort of surprises me. To wrestle with something until I win, or until I lose, and to challenge myself to have the confidence to show work that I regard as total failure.”

As White embarks on his third solo exhibition with MARQUEE PROJECTS, we can’t help but reflect on his accomplishments since his first solo exhibit with us back in 2017. We are indeed proud of the success of one of “our” artists, who has now enjoyed shows in Brussels, Berlin, London, Seoul, Brisbane, and NYC. But what’s most satisfying to witness in any artist’s career is how, amidst this success, they navigate the waters of the art world, avoid complacency, and continue to challenge themselves creatively. Taylor began by making complex paintings that translate our contemporary digital bombardment of hyper-information into cross-sensory pieces that combine standard mixed-media materials of oil, acrylic, spray paint, and charcoal. Further formal exploration developed by incorporating collage, sewing, and upholstered techniques utilizing various linens, cardboards, plastics, and recycled artworks. But then, in a wildly adventurous move, Taylor decided to burst out of the rectangular format altogether to make irregularly shaped paintings that include even more vastly disparate materials. Subsequently, in a characteristic reversal, he chose to challenge himself yet again and return to making paintings with just paint. White’s perpetual self-provocation and questioning are what make him such an exciting artist to watch.
