MARQUEE PROJECTS is thrilled to announce Grass Area, our fifth solo exhibition with Taylor Anton White. An opening reception will be held on Friday, July 10 from 5-7pm.

Many of you have become familiar with White’s artwork in the 10 years we’ve been exhibiting it. You may recall that White never rests on his laurels and continues to broaden his artistic expression and surprise us with newly evolved paintings in each subsequent show.

His drawing and painting practice has always oscillated between formless abstraction and blunt, dark, angsty figuration, and Grass Area shows us pieces of that kind. But this exhibition also presents more recent work at the beginning of a new oscillation of mood, between his darker sensibility and one that is fresher, more light-filled, transparent, fun, and self-pleasing. In these pieces he intentionally discards any protective cynicism, enjoying a return to the unconscious impulse that accesses the intersection between the temporal and the eternal, a source that precedes thought, the wellspring of playfulness he felt when he first began making art.
