Lauren Ruiz

Lauren Ruiz is a research-based multimedia artist interrogating perceptions of nature, the role of institutional authority, and their complex intersections with class, labor, and identity. She creates speculative-fiction-based installations, digital works, and multimedia sculptures questioning the relationship between the human body and the postnatural environment. Ruiz draws upon environmental data and science journals, climate fiction novels and horror films. Her interactive installations situate viewers in recognizable institutional spaces, affecting how they relate to the complex mechanisms of evolution, ecology, data, and embodiment.

Ruiz's research projects have been presented at the Latvian National Museum of Art, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, UC Santa Barbara, UC Berkeley, the 2021 College Art Association Conference and the 2022 AAH Conference. Her work has been exhibited in the United States, Japan, Canada, the Czech Republic, and Cuba. Ruiz has been a resident artist at the Vermont Studio Center, the Guerrilla Science’s ArtSci Residency, the I-Park Foundation Artist-in-Residence Program, and the 2022 Santa Fe Art Institute Revolution Residency.
